SCXI Configuration on Remote RT System Never Updates

Primary Software: LabVIEW Modules>>Real-Time Module
Primary Software Version: 7.1
Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A
Secondary Software: Driver Software>>NI-DAQmx
Hardware: SCXI

Problem:
My SCXI chassis configuration in the Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX) never changes even if modules are shuffled or changed. Why can't I delete my SCXI chassis from my RT system in MAX?

Solution:
This usually happens when the niconfig.daq file is not updated correctly on controller that has NI-DAQ installed. This file can be located in the ni-rt \System directory of the RT controller. There are two possible ways to resolve this issue.
  • Remove the file and allow the system to recreate it based on the current configuration:
    1. FTP to the remote system, and locate the file niconfig.daq
    2. Delete the file, and reboot the chassis
    3. The file should be re-created with the new configuration
  • In some cases, the niconfig.daq file will create references in other locations of the disk, deleting it might not resolve this issue.  When you try opening up MAX again, you would find the same old configuration.  In this case the hard disk of the RT controller will need to be formatted. Please follow these instructions
    1. Boot the RT controller into safe mode (refer to the Operating Instructions for your particular RT controller for instructions on how to boot into safe mode).
    2. Right-click on the RT system under Remote Systems in MAX and choose Format.
    3. Reboot the controller and re-install software on it from the host through MAX.  This will recreate the file with the new SCXI configuration.
