Get Poll Connection Input & Output Size and Set the Connection Attributes

Primary Software: Driver Software>>NI-DNET
Primary Software Version: 1.5
Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A
Secondary Software: N/A
Hardware: Industrial Communications>>DeviceNet>>PCI-CAN (DNET), Industrial Communications>>DeviceNet>>PCMCIA-CAN (DNET), Industrial Communications>>DeviceNet>>PXI-8461 (DNET), Industrial Communications>>DeviceNet>>NI DeviceNet Interfaces

Problem:
My DeviceNet slave device supports Poll connection. What options do I have in retrieving the slave device input/output size?  Also, how can I set the related producer/consumer path?

Solution:
You can get the slave device's I/O connection information in NI-DNET Configurator (named SimpleWho in legacy NI-DNET versions).  To launch the Configurator, right-click the DeviceNet interface (such as DNET0) in Measurement & Automation Explorer and select Configurator.

These attributes can also be retrieved and set programmatically.  The procedure is:
  1. Open the I/O connection by explicit messaging.
  2. Get the connection attributes, such as input/output size.
  3. Set the connection attributes, for example producer/consumer path.
  4. Release the connection.
The attached VI shows how to get and set the DeviceNet slave connection related attributes in LabVIEW.
