Preventing "AutoConnect to First Failed" Error When Communicating with VXI Technologies SMIP Modules

Hardware: VXI/VME/MXI

Problem: I am using a National Instruments VXI Controller with NI-VXI driver version 3.1 or later to communicate with VXI Technology SMIP Modules. However, when I run the Soft Front Panel on my SMIP Soft Front Panel program, I receive the error AutoConnect To First Failed. How do I correct this error?

Solution: The VXI Technology SMIP Modules use shared memory. You must configure this shared memory in Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX). Follow these steps to configure this memory.
  1. Launch MAX.

  2. In MAX, expand folders under Devices and Interfaces until the listing for your VXI controller is visible.

  3. Right-click your VXI controller and select Properties.

  4. Under Shared Memory, select the Enable Mapping checkbox and select a minimum memory setting of 16 KB.

  5. Reboot the system.
