Why Am I Getting the Alarm "The logging buffer is full"?Primary Software: LookoutPrimary Software Version: 4.0.1 Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A Secondary Software:
Problem: I am logging my data to the Citadel database. I keep getting the error "The logging buffer is full". What does this alarm mean and how can I fix it? Solution: Lookout does not write directly to the Citadel database. Lookout writes to a logging buffer. This logging buffer is flushed to the database according to the default parameters. You can change these default parameters to prevent the logging buffer from getting full. You are going to need to modify your Logos.ini file. If you do not have this file on your machine, you will need to create it. Save this file in C:\WINNT (Windows NT) or C:\WINDOWS (Windows 98/95). Make the following entry to the file: [Citadel] MaxQueueSize=### in points LogPeriod=### in milliseconds MaxQueueSize is the number of times a single point can change before Lookout finishes configuring all points for logging. The default is 500. Setting this to something like 5000 will probably give Lookout enough time to configure points. LogPeriod is how often the logging buffer is flushed to the database. The default is 200. If you have a lot of points, this can be very slow, since Lookout needs to get the timestamp from each point before logging to the database. Setting this to something like 2000 (2 seconds) or more will help free up the processor. HyperTrends will update considerably less often, but they are probably doing that anyway if the logging buffer is full. Note: you can also get the "logging buffer full" error if Lookout is unable to connect to the Citadel database. This can happen if the Citadel service is not running on the computer on which the database resides (usually the local computer), or if that computer is not reachable from the local computer. Another reason why Citadel may not be running is a corrupted database. If there is a serious corruption in the database, then Citadel won't launch. Refer to the linked documents for more details.
