This help file contains technical and programming support for the NI-Device version 1.6 software for the Driver Development Kit (DDK). IEEE 488.2 requires that instrument manufacturers and designers integrate one or more communication buses into the design of their instruments. The General Purpose Interface Bus (GPIB) is the dominant communication bus used by instruments; however, numerous other interfaces exist, including Ethernet and USB. NI-Device is a bus-independent API modeled after IEEE 488.2 that abstracts the communication bus from your device-specific firmware. This lets you concentrate on the development of device-specific functionality of your instrument. This help file describes the fundamental and advanced terminology for using NI-Device and provides reference material and tutorials for applying a C++ language interface.
