NI Delivers Graphical System Design to Power Architecture Technology

National Instruments offers more than 30 years of technology leadership to Power.org as well as significant experience supporting Power Architecture technology through the company’s graphical system design platform. As a member of Power.org, National Instruments benefits from the collaboration with leading technology companies including Freescale, IBM and Xilinx, whose expertise of Power Architecture technology can be applied to the creation of high-performance, rugged and low-power commercial off-the-shelf NI hardware.

CompactRIO integrates a Freescale Power Architecture-based real-time processor, an embedded Xilinx field-programmable gate array (FPGA) chip, the Wind River VxWorks Real-Time Operating System, and a wide variety of I/O modules to give engineers a COTS hardware platform for building embedded systems. National Instruments also extends the benefits of Power.org to engineers and scientists by making it possible for them to combine this off-the-shelf hardware, the NI CompactRIO reconfigurable embedded control and acquisition system, with NI LabVIEW graphical development tools to program Power Architecture processors and quickly design, prototype and deploy embedded systems.

Freescale Semiconductor
Freescale is a global leader in the design and manufacture of embedded semiconductors for the automotive, consumer, industrial, networking and wireless markets and committed to the evolution of
Power Achitecture technology.. NI leverages Freescale Power Architecture with the NI cRIO-9014 and cRIO-9012 controllers built with an embedded Freescale MPC5200 processor giving scientists and engineers a high-performance embedded prototyping
and acquisition system that is ideal for applications requiring a rugged, low-power solution. NI also extends the offers a path to custom design using LabVIEW and Freescale 32-bit processors.

Xilinx
With the NI LabVIEW FPGA Module, you can create custom measurement and control I/O hardware by targeting a Xilinx FPGA on NI hardware without low-level hardware description languages or hardware board-level design. Use this custom hardware for unique timing and triggering routines, ultrahigh-speed control, and interfacing to digital protocols.

Wind River
Wind River enables companies to develop, run and manage device software faster, better, at ower cost and more reliably with their real-time operating system, VxWorks. NI offers scientists and engineers the reliability of the VxWorks real-time operating system (RTOS) on the NI cRIO-9014 and cRIO-9012 controllers for high-performance embedded control and acquisition systems. Having the VxWorks RTOS running on the Freescale Power Architecture MPC5200 provides dependable performance to reduce jitter and increase reliability for high-speed control applications. In addition, using the LabVIEW Microprocessor SDK to target hardware running VxWorks to extend the range of deployment options using LabVIEW.

Power.org

The Power.org community, formed in 2005, is the collaborative, open organization driving innovation around Power Architecture™ technology through alignment of the instruction set architecture, development of standards and specifications and nurturing of the Power Architecture brand. Power.org's mission is to optimize interoperability, accelerate innovation and drive increased adoption of this leading processor architecture. Power Architecture technology is pervasive -- behind millions of innovative products, including the world’s fastest supercomputers, leading video game consoles and electronic systems in most of today’s cars.
